YARD SQUARED

36”x36”x2”
Yard Squared is a series of wall pieces fabricated out of 36 inch-long, found, vintage, wood yardsticks. These are turned sideways and glued together to form a square measuring 36 X 36 inches. Through my practice I explore unique ways of using found objects to produce sculptures that trick the viewer into focusing on the whole before they realize what the parts are. By using hundreds of similar objects to fabricate one sculpture, I blur the line between the whole and the sum of its parts. In this case, yardsticks are transformed into a minimalist painting.
